8 Essential Prerequisites for Better Ranking of Your Blog

The success of a weblog does not only depends upon the originality of the content and link building etc. There are many individuals who have written really nice articles on different topics, but had remained to be a failure in acquiring the deserving response. The blatant reason behind this failure is a deficiency of fulfilling some essential prerequisites.

Who does not want for his blog to flourish and make good revenue. Obviously, everyone has the same wish. I’ve already written an article earlier on some quick promotion techniques of a website, but this time the focus is on other side. I have short-listed around 8 crucial prerequisites for better ranking of your blog. I believe and hope implementing these will give a head start to your blog. If you already own one then I guarantee you a mark change in your overall website’s standing.

1. Niche

If the main motive behind running a blog is to make money, it is very important to do a niche analysis. The niche of a website plays a vital role in showing up your blog in search engines. Health, internet & computer, business & finance and digital photography are some of the best topics to start a weblog with. A very simple and generic way to do niche analysis is to scrutinize the source of successful websites. The portion of meta keyword in the source of the website can be of great use, if you know what it is for.

Defining the niche and the techniques of dealing with it is a bit complex and needs a separate post to be explained in detail. What I have mentioned above is a good summary of the overall idea and can be sufficient to prove its vitality.

2. Google Webmaster Tools

It is very important for the bloggers to sign up on Google Webmaster Tools as soon as they make their website live. The tool generates a complete report of the website to optimize the visibility in search engines. In fact it shows the webmasters all the weak areas of the website that should be amended in order to make the website comply with the Google’s recommended settings.

3. Pinging

Pinging is the quickest way of indexing a link on search engines. In general sense, pinging is an act of informing the search engines about an update on your website.  Usually, all the Content Management System’s (CMS) used by the bloggers have a built-in feature of pinging. Whenever a blogger publishes a post, a ping is automatically send to the bots via that built-in pinging feature, but as a matter of fact this built-in pinging does not really captivate the crawlers attention to your blog.

WordPress has recommended a list of URL’s which are supposed to produce better results than those used as the default. One should be well aware of not pinging the same link over and over again. Search engine bots consider this an act of spam and eventually penalizes the website for their wrong doing.

WordPress users can also make use of PubSubHubbub plugin. The plugin informs the search engines about your blog update quickly. There are no complicated settings required to make the plugin work. You only need to install and activate the plugin and it will start to show its miracles.

4. Website Performance

The better the website performs, the better it leaves an impression on visitors. The performance of a website is based on several factors, however according to me the most important is its speed. Some very useful tips for boosting the website’s speed are shared at www.moz.com. Their suggestion for enabling gzip compression and leverage browser caching are the immediate remedies for speeding up entire web browsing process.

Those who are using a CMS can use different plugins. Some of the best WordPress plugins are W3Total CacheWP Super Cache, and Hyper Cache etc..

5. Meta Description & Titles

Title and Meta Description are a prologue of the website’s pages in search engines. Search engines used to index the title and meta description of the web pages. It is very important to write accurate titles and meta description. Both the elements must contain the keywords to optimize the search engines.

6. Norton Safe Web

As soon as you buy a domain name for a website, it is highly recommended to register it at www.safeweb.norton.com. Once your website is reviewed by Norton, all the links that will be indexed in the search engines will be labelled as safe. People who used to do safe browsing will not be reluctant anymore in visiting your website.

7. Submission to Search Engines

Though, crawlers of the search engines can automatically index your website for organic traffic but it still do take more time than manual mode of submission. Submitting your website in search engines separately can be bit lengthy. However, the use of free submission services like Entireweb and Submitstart has proven to be a shortcut for the problem.

8. Feed Burner

One should simultaneously sign up for www.feedburner.com as soon as he starts publishing the content on their weblog. Feedburner optimizes the RSS feeds of a website and represents the blog updates in a more light-weighted style.

Apart from this, the visitors can subscribe to your blog for updates and become a part of your website’s family.
